today, panzer started closing his eyes tight and putting his hand in front of his face when i catch him doing something he knows he's not supposed to do.  if he can't see me, it must be okay.

today, panzer made it to the top!  he loves stairs.

 

big thanks to miss maurine for teaching P to go down stairs backwards in just one day ... undoing all the bad habits of auntie kimmy.

and today, panzer had his second ice cream cone -- he's sold.

(not sure where the other shoe is... but when ice cream is involved, who cares?)

today, panzer had his first ice cream cone.  (these are the kind of messes that make you glad you live in cottonwood, arizona.)



mother road

today, panzer was cruising route 66 and stopped for his first piece of pie from the pine country restaurant in williams, arizona.  key lime -- yum!

stern talking to

today, panzer started shaking his finger at me when i tell him no.  unfortunately, he shakes his finger and laaaaaaughs instead of reflecting the grave seriousness of the situation i am sure is reflected in my face and tone....

thankfully, he can't say "no."  yet.

little arab

today, panzer had his first stuffed grape leaves.  he loved them, even the leaf part -- thanks siti!

and here he is signing for "more" cheese.  so he does take after his mom (and auntie heidi) too...

one million toys

and today, panzer chose the strainer and penguin spatula.

the sign

today, panzer learned his first sign.  he can now tell me "more."  already associated with blueberries, kiwis, donuts and milk.... 

i am pretty excited and hopefully he will pick up more as we learn sign language together!

the boss

today, panzer saw daddy coming and ran straight back to mommy and jumped into her arms.  he knows who is the boss and who will rock him for 10 more minutes to see if he'll fall asleep without having to scream.

eyes and ears and mouth and nose!

today, panzer pointed to his ears, eyes, tongue and teeth on command. 

for some reason, he can't find his nose yet (sounds too much like "no," which just blends into the background).  also, when i asked him where his belly button was, he grabbed his diaper.

gimme gimme

today, panzer wisely discovered that if his hands are full, he cannot rightfully ask for more. this is how it goes:

• mommy has a fudge-stripe cookie for breakfast. panzer holds out his hand.
• mommy breaks off a piece for panzer. panzer licks all the fudge off, making a huge mess on his face and carseat.
• panzer notices mommy has more cookie in her hand. panzer looks at the cookie in my hand. he looks at the cookie in his hand. you can see the wheels a-turnin'.
• then panzer quickly shoves the cookie in his hand into his mouth, and holds out his hand for more!

bedtime

today, panzer dug his homemade by GT, crocheted animal menagerie blanket out of the couch, handed it to me in the rocker, climbed onto my lap and went to sleep snuggling with it.
sometimes i forget how little and sweet he is when he's so busy being badass. here he is a year ago, super-bald and snuggling with his new blankie for the first time.

ooh ooh ah ah

today, panzer insisted on eating his banana like a little monkey -- in one piece with the skin peeled back.

crunch

today, panzer dug the ancient piece of toast aaron had just swept out from under the oven out of the garbage can and licked it. the only thing he likes better than garbage is a big box full of recyclable goods -- cardboard boxes and empty milk jugs.

today, panzer realized that fart noises are funny, no matter which end they come out of. he's destined for many years of simple pleasure.

P-bomb

today, panzer lived up to his namesake. aaron picked him up, flipped him over, propped him against his arm and aimed P's long juicy fart at me. i have created a weapon.

AAAAAAAAAAH!

today, panzer began a loud stage. he has happily made loud, unidentified noises, non-stop all day.

(you can presume this stage continues until you hear otherwise...)

elevator

today, panzer rode in the elevator on his own two feet -- he did not enjoy going up or down and spent both trips on all fours yowling with uncertainty. hee hee hee.

daredevil

today, panzer purposefully dove off the bed and into a pile of laundry.

at least, aaron thinks it was on purpose. and if he's right, we are in over our head.

RAR

today, panzer roared back at his roaring tiger flashlight.

touchdown tigers!!

today, panzer cheered his clemson tigers on in their first orange bowl since mommy was born!

he got to do this a few times before he went to bed, and doesn't even know (or care) that we eventually lost by 40 points. dressing up in tini-tees and cheering is fun! so, the boys and i are already looking forward to next season. GO TIGERS!

good boy

today, panzer took my snotty tissue to the trash can after i handed it to him and said "go put this in the garbage, panzer." maybe this will end the trend of taking things out of the garbage.

mommy vs. daddy

today, panzer had to wriggle out of my lap after drinking his bottle (yes, i still rock him to sleep at one year, two months and 5 days), run into the next room and give daddy a leg-hug, and run back to my lap for bedtime once his business was finished.

such a sweet little boy <3

red rocks

today, panzer rang in the new year with a hike through the red rocks of sedona to chicken point. he was a happy rider at the trailhead.

but insisted on doing most of it himself.
